Water Pollution Control

Water Pollution Control (WPC) is the city division that provides and maintains sanitary and storm sewers in the City. WPC is currently undergoing construction of new facilities to replace obsolete equipment and increase capacity. This expansion of capacity will accommodate the growth in residents and businesses in the sewer district.

Since 1991, the WPC has been involved with the EPA mandated sewer separation projects. These projects involve the installation of underground storm sewer lines separate from the sanitary sewer lines. That means water and sewage coming from households and businesses travels to the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) where it is processed and cleaned before entering the Maumee River. The separate storm sewer lines collect water from the streets and catch basins. This water enters the storm sewer lines which flow directly to the Maumee River without treatment. The stormwater management plans address the education and regulation of water entering storm sewer lines to prevent point and non-point pollution.
