Arbor Day Celebration

April 26, 2024

The City of Perrysburg held an Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 26 at Municipal Park. Each year, students in the Perrysburg School District and St. Rose School create designs for Arbor Day. The winners were recognized at this celebration. Their designs were turned into banners, which will be hung on the light posts in Downtown Perrysburg.

This year’s theme was related to birding. Jim Witter, Program Director for the Wood County Park District, was the featured guest speaker. The Country Garden Club donated a Chinkapin Oak Tree which was planted at the park near the playground. A maple tree was also planted.

The Arbor Day event is organized each year by Perrysburg’s Street Tree Commission whose purpose is to advise City Council and the Mayor on any program or legislation regarding plants in public rights-of-way. The commission also spearheads public education regarding the selection, planting, and care of trees.

The City is celebrating the 40th year of being named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation and the 26th year for receiving the Tree City USA Growth Award.
